First UTR Charity Open by First Racquet: A Tremendous Turnout!

11/19/23

First Racquet made a triumphant return on November 19th with our latest Thanksgiving UTR Charity Open, held at the tennis courts of Shadow Creek High School. This marked the inaugural UTR tournament organized by First Racquet, and the results speak for itself: Over 65 player sign ups and 15 sponsorships.

Furthermore, we completed a grand total of 80 matches during an 8-hour timeframe, successfully concluding 20 out of 24 final matches in six draws. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially given its infrequency in UTR tournaments, where participants often withdraw following a loss in the main draw. This highlights the core mission of First Racquet events, emphasizing the significance of community involvement and interaction over mere victory or defeat.

Months before the tournament, our committed team meticulously planned the logistics of the event to ensure a smooth experience for all, with preparations of UTR registrations, court availability, and sponsorship relations.

On the morning of November 19th, First Racquet members showed up to the Shadow Creek tennis courts, hanging up banners, setting up tents, and loading up the hydration stations. Despite the autumn chill, players eagerly took to the courts early in the morning.

During breaks, participants stayed refreshed with complimentary snacks and drinks, and for a delightful treat, Stanley’s popcorn stand proved to be a crowd favorite, offering a multitude of refreshments ranging from popcorn to hotdogs.

Throughout the day, players were hard at work, playing match after match. Similarly, over a dozen First Racquet volunteers worked tirelessly on the sidelines, taking photos of the event and helping out as line judges to ensure fair play. Participants not only showcased their                                                        competitiveness but also had a great time on court.

As the tournament concluded, First Racquet members took stage, carrying out an enchanting award ceremony. The deserving winners of each draw were presented with their prize of choice, ranging from lessons with renowned coaches to                                                                     gift cards from Tennis Express.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to our sponsors, selfless volunteers, and enthusiastic participants. Thank you all for making this tournament a remarkable experience!

TESTIMONIALS

It was well organized and the staff were very nice and courteous!

So many things were awesome: people helping on the court, organization, and provided drinks. The only suggested improvement would be to plan for a little more time per match if the ratings are close. You could set the 1st set of courts on sooner by bringing all players to the desk and going over the rules. Anyways I want to reinforce that the tourney was awesome, and I enjoyed having it set up so I could play!

Although there were some delays, overall it was a fun tournament, and you guys should host more!

Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. I liked all of the extra helpers, but the matches were running behind schedule.

I enjoyed the well made tents and available foods/drinks. It was very organized too!

N.A

Very well presented with the tents, available snacks, and food resources for recovery. A lot of youth referees present that were helping call lines and help younger players with the score. 5 stars out of 5!

C.L

Only critique is to make sure the speaker is facing the crowd because it is hard to hear instructions or callouts for next players.

Great experience, long day, but overall the staff was very helpful and supportive. Loved every second of it, and will be back next time!
