On Friday, November 29th, the day after Thanksgiving, First Racquet hosted its final charity UTR tennis tournament of the year, the 2024 First Racquet Spirit of Service Thanksgiving UTR Open. Held on the courts of Shadow Creek High School, the event brought together players and First Racquet members in high spirits despite the chilly weather.
The tournament was made possible through the unwavering support of Shadow Creek’s coaches and staff, who ensured the event ran smoothly and successfully. This event would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors. This year’s Thanksgiving tournament featured several unique highlights that made it a standout event. First, we celebrated an award ceremony for the President’s Volunteer Service Award (PVSA). Several First Racquet members were recognized for their outstanding volunteer work, a feat made possible by Catherine’s tireless efforts in organizing the application process. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the awardees and encourage all members to strive for this honor in the coming year.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, student volunteers from Shadow Creek High School performed a traditional Indian dance, bringing energy and vibrance to the event. Their performance captivated the audience and infused the day with a joyful holiday spirit.
Additionally, we extend our thanks to Krish for his consistent efforts in baking and selling cookies at every event, with all proceeds going to support the First Racquet fund. His dedication has been invaluable to our cause.
As the final UTR event of the year, this tournament marked the culmination of another successful season for First Racquet. As we now prepare for the season of giving, we are gathering all donations for shipment to Angola, where these contributions will bring joy and opportunity to children eager to play tennis.
